What is and what could have been.

Homework, my teacher barely looked at it though, which pisses me off as I actually like it a lot. I'm not even sure why, but it turned out pretty much the way I wanted it to, also because I was lucky enough to find good reference which matched my mental image. I used it to make a 5 minute sketch and then finished it on the train. First attempt at a dry brush'ish technique.

The assignment was about opposing things like light and darkness and balance of opposites and such. I started with fairly obvious things like straight and round, big and small, dark and light (a blind eye and a normal eye i.e. the light in someone's eye, the ability to see) and then this popped into my head; what is and could have been. I don't think anything represents loss as much as a dead bird, which alive is a symbol for freedom.

Also, the font is ironically called "You Murderer".

Architecture

Birds on a wire

A while ago I heard a piece of music called "Birds on a wire"; a musician had seen a photo of a bunch of birds sitting on a series of wires which he thought looked like music notes, so he ran with it and the result was pretty amazing. Personally I got mildly obsessed with the words "birds on a wire" so when I saw the wire they had in the studio I combined it with my small collection of bird skulls. I really like the idea, but the end result is a little cluttered (save for the last one) and I'm not sure if I like this series, but I'll probably do more with it.

Bad Dog!

I went to the zoo today with a friend to take pictures, and the prairie dogs are pretty much a mandatory stop because their enclosure is very photographer-friendly. It's fairly natural without fences or glass; in fact, you can get extremely close to them. So close that at one point in time I was leaning on the stone edge and almost put my hand down atop of a prairie dog that was half submerged in a burrow it had dug right beside the edge of the enclosure.

The same prairie dog who, later when my friend Clicky was trying to shoot some photos of some other prairie dogs, decided to stroll up to and attempt to steal a button off her coat.

Mata Mata

I forgot this one yesterday, but it kind of deserves it's own post anyway; the mata mata turtle.
Macro lens again, and it kind of looks like a mountain ridge come alive. I think it photographed rather well despite the dirty window and muddy water (it was submerged). It just looks so goshdarned happy.
